Damage System
Bushido System
- In Bushido there are two methods of Damage calculation, the first is based on unarmed and for each strength value there is a Damage Die Step and second is for weapons. In the second each weapon has a fixed Weapon Damage Die Step and the strength of the user is a modifier. The basis of the system is the Damage Die Step.

d20 System
- The d20 system uses a Damage step system where each creature type or weapon type has a base Step depending on it Size modified by the attack type. And a Bonus due to the creatures strength. This is very similiar to Bushido, almost down to the same weapon damages.
- Damage Bonus := ( Str - 10 ) / 2

Simple Constructs, Plants Slam,Gore Claw Bite
- Hence for example:
- a Large Plant would do mainly attack as a Slam or Gore doing 1d8 damage per attack.
- a Fine (ie small fly sized) Dragon would attack with only a Bite for 1d2
- a Colossal Bear would attack with Bite 4d6, Gore 4d6, Claws 2d8 and Slam 2d6
- Althought this system is complex and infact looks more like it was cobled together after the facts it is not that hard to use once you understand it.
- (Note there is also a Strength attribute modifier which adds to the dice, this makes larger creatures do even more damage and smaller ones even less.)
Conclusions
- The two systems Damage values are so close that it is almost possible to just use ones values with the other system without to much problem. (I suspect that Bushido was designed using the same basic knife, sword etc damage because it was written not long after AD&D was published and back then it would not have been seen so weird as all the wargamers used each others rules with out the same level of copyright sillyness we have today).
- I suggest that weapon damages are translated when nessary but creature damage values are used directly with only there strength modifiers converted. In fact when designing new Bushido creatures it make sence to use the d20 system as a good place to start.
