Smoke and Mirrors

Part of this adventure is taken from [Dungeon] xx and this write up will contain spoilers, if your referee is likely to run adventures from Dungeon please read no further.

Story

Not going down there!

The group are shown the way down into the dungeon under the TempestTemple complex. As GeveryChambertain has been weakened they agree to go back to FoglyOnSea to rest up. Having determined that the whole meeting was a setup / ploy of some sort, possibly including being shown the dungeon entrance by the hag, they wonder if FoglyOnSea might be under attack by the DireHand's forces.

On the way back they loot the bodies of the goblins and orks for the weapons and any other valuables. The rest is burnt in sacrifice to LordStarLight. ReinarTheFaceless takes a fine velvet cushion.

Smoking the Bass

The arrive at Foggly to see ominous black smoke billowing from every home. Fearing the worse the run into the fishing village ready to fight the DireHand's men. Instead they find that everyone is going about their business and smoking the vast amount of bass that has been caught over the last few days.

They collect there 800 gp from LeisterMortimer and the rest of the merchants for killing the bandits.

A New Life

Every one is enjoying the free time now most of the hard work is done. The merchant throw a party for the villages hero. During the celebrations JennyCodbucket whom was having an affair with GeveryChambertain some time ago burst into the feast and declares that she has his child. GeveryChambertain makes a rapid and unceremonious exit from the back of the Inn, dejected after being so cruelly cast off Jenny Codbucket returns home.

GeveryChambertain asks ReinarTheFaceless to see if JennyCodbucket can be paid off with a purse of 30 platinum. ReinarTheFaceless reports back that the answer was an emphatic no.

The Merchant's Home

The merchant that hired the party, LeisterMortimer, is thought of as the likely spy by the party, so ReinarTheFaceless goes and searches his home whilst MrYoung makes it sound like he is still at the feast.

'He' finds quite a bit of money, promissory notes, the ledger and deeds. It seems that a lot of his carts go missing on the way to and from LastBeurg, with enough to feed a lot of men (100 men+). After an internal debate he takes all the evidence and money all. He also finds a [diary] written in 'Dark' which he can't read. He hears something in the cellar and decides to discuss this with the others.

After the conversation MrYoung goes off and on his own burns down the merchants home.

The whole village helps in attempting to put out the fire but fails to save the house. But the fire does not spread. ReinarTheFaceless confronts LeisterMortimer and he admits to working for the DireHand but has been ripping him off. ReinarTheFaceless tells him to make a run for it and to meet him up the road where he will give the merchant some of his money to make good his escape in return for (?).

The party spilt it treasure. MrYoung gives to JennyCodbucket's father the deeds to the merchant's plot. The rest think that he has just put a death sentence on her.

GeveryChambertain makes his way to the back of the Codbucket house, and manages to persuade Jenny that he's still in love with her, but his heroic duties drag him away and mean he can't show public affection etc.etc. and has his wicked way again, and promises not to demean her family by offering money again. (Cheap bastard). There is no apparent motive in this making up, apart from the sheer challenge.

After the fire has cool the group search the cellar and find a chest of merchant cloths which ReinarTheFaceless takes to help with his disguises and a chest of wine bottles sized potions bottles. The bottles can't be identified by there label as it is in 'Dark' but the party agree to allow the alchemist to use one unit to test and keep one unit (of the 8 in the bottle) in return for finding out what they are.

They also find tracks in the sewage tunnel to the sea.

Bounty

The group collect a large number of gems worth thousands of pp, some merchant guild promisary notes and some deeds to property in LastBeurg, HartHam, DukesVille, and FoglyOnSea.

The deed to the merchant's houses' plot of land is given to the family of GeveryChambertain's new child. ( I object, not proven Gevery)

The merchant leaves with a large amount of cash.
