Captain, later Admiral of the British Fleet of some 22 ships was operating off the coast of Syria in 1840. Commodore Charles Napier in HMS Powerful (84 guns)saw action around Beirut from about
September 11th 1840, and Acre was bombarded on November 3rd 1840 culminating in the grand magazine ashore blowing up killing upwards of 1200 people.
