Power Level

Introduction

Every action in Nobilis has Power Level. Walking, Running, Climbing, etc, being a Thief, casting a spell, changing the universal properties of reality etc.

Power Levels

This Power Level goes from NULL ie you have no power to do that Ability, through Zero which is the lowest level at which it could be done, up to 9 which is Reality Changing. For example Eat Null is can't eat at all, Eat 0 is eat normally, Eat 1 could be eating really fast, Eat 2 is contender at the world hot dog eating and Eat 9 is swallowing the moon and then wanting more.

As you will see an Object normally Null so it can't eat, it is also Trival to eat so someone can eat it with 0. The larger the Object the more it moves up the scale. Moons being say 7 or 8 sized objects. Also the longer you spend doing something the more it moves down the scale, hence some one with Eat 0 if they lived long enough could eat the Moon.

The Power Level also measures Magic on the same scale. Null equals no ability or no ability needed, Zero is simple detections, One is Simple Illusions up to 9 which is Change everything everywhere.

Example

Say there is a room for Darkness. This is a Minor Destruction of Vision, or a Remove Miracle. That has a Power Level of 5.

This chart show the types vers size of a Miracle. Trival are very small or personal space sized, Minor are local area or very specific, Major are longer distance or very general.

So as an example a Small Illusion is Power Level 1. This would be something about man sized. Talking to a plant in front of you is a 0, finding out which tree is an oak in a cops is a 2, wanting to know what the effect of dutch elm deases is over a forest is probly a 5.

To over come a Miracle you need to have a greater Power Level. So if you want to cast a spell it would need have an effect of 6 to over come the Darkness from last night. So for Remove Magic to work it must be a Minor Destruction of Magic with an additional 1 point being spent on it. But as the DnD? spell is quite good and works on all sort of stuff it must have more like a Power Level 7 ie 5 with an extra 2. You can think of a DnD? spell as a way to do Focused Miracles, with predefined Power Levels. Unless Aspect, Domain, Realm, or Spirit get involved I will not normally work this out, we will just play the effects of the spells as written.

So to use Aspect to over come the Power Level of the Darkness Spell or Ability of the NPC you need to do a Power Level Aspect Effect of 6. ie Aspect Level 1 plus 5 Aspect Miracle Points.
